On February 24, 2023, Villa del Rey Elementary School held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their brand new, state-of-the-art, esports lab. The lab is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop their skills in the growing field of esports.
The lab features high-end gaming computers, comfortable seating throughout, and the latest gaming equipment. Students will be able to play games, learn about game design, experiment with digital media, and engage in friendly gameplay competition both with each other and with other schools. The goal of the lab is to provide students with a fun and educational environment where they can develop their teamwork, critical thinking, social and emotional learning, and problem-solving skills.
Following the ribbon cutting, there was a tour of the lab, during which students and teachers were able to get a first-hand look at the facility and the equipment. Guests were also able to participate in gameplay and get a feel for what it would be like to use the lab on a normal basis.
At the end of the program, there was an esports tournament sponsored by the Division of Technology Esports Program from 5:30pm to 7:30pm to continue the celebration.
The Esports Lab at Villa del Rey Elementary is a major investment in the future of these students and is sure to have a positive impact on them. Both students and teachers are eager to start using the lab and everyone is looking forward to see the exciting and wonderful possibilities the lab will bring.
