On October 29th, 2021, Northeast High hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to reveal a state-of-the-art eSports lab. Notable individuals in attendance were:
This state-of-the-art eSports lab is made up of 7 brand new ASUS ASROG desktops, 4 Samsung digital displays (AXI Solutions), two Nintendo Switches (HSEL), and 7 sets of eSports furniture (Spectrum).
Through the collaborative visionand efforts of the Department of Technology Services and Northeast High, a dream was turned into reality. According to Jeffery Harrison, these are the building blocks for implementing Scholastic eSports as an educational platform with endless opportunities for all our students.
The Department of Technology Services is spearheading the Scholastic eSports Initiative as a modern, innovative enhancement to the education of students in EBRPSS.
The eSports club at Northeast High School is pioneered by Coach Jeffrey Johnson, Coach Adrienne Alford, and Coach Ian “Bahawaka” Crowe. Coach Ian is arecently retired professional eSports athlete. eSports has continuously grown to become one of the top grossing industries in the world. Professional eSports teams like TSM and NRG have become sports franchises with revenue streams upwards of $20 million.
In addition to competition, the eSports ecosystem also allows for career readiness in four main tracks; Strategists, Organizers, Content Creators, and Entrepreneurs.
